Adopt-A-Chaplain
We pleased to announce that the Harvest Church of the Nazarene has joined the national Adopt-A-Chaplain organization to support our deployed chaplains.
Adopt-a-Chaplain is a Christ-centered ministry that is dedicated to supporting our troops through the ministries of Chaplains. By Adopting Chaplains (and their families) we pray for and communicate with them regularly. We send modern day "care packages" to chaplains serving in the Middle East. They distribute the items to our troops.
Our first adoptee is our own Chaplain Ric Thompson. We are currently gathering cards, notes, and treats to include in our next package. Chaplain Thompson has specifically requested that we send non-perishable candy for the soldiers to hand out to Iraqi children and non-herbal tea bags. On Thursdays, Ric goes to a medical clinic to pass out school supplies and candy to Iraqi children who visit. Ric would be grateful if we could send both school supplies and hard candy for this mission. He has also asked that we send along items desperately needed at the clinic such as disposable diapers, wipes, and feminine pads. These items are extremely expensive in Iraq.
December Update from Ric and Sally:
Chaplain Ric, along with the other officers, served the soldiers their thanksgiving dinner at the DFAC (dining facility). Ric carved 20 turkeys. It was a nice dinner with all the trimmings and decorated for the holiday. He wishes he had a picture to send, but for security reasons he can't take pictures in the DFAC. When I talk to him, he's doing the same old things day after day. Which is very good--he's staying safe.

September 25 Updated from Ric and Sally:
Ric recently sent me these pictures. This is his new chapel. He also has a new office. He moved from a small cubicle in a big building--not good for confidential meetings with soldiers--to a single wide trailer. He is really enjoying it. He also was able to move out of the tent he shared with 12 other men and into a small room where he only has one roommate. Life has gotten a lot more comfortable for him--not quite like being home, but better then it was.
Thank you for keeping him in your prayers.
