August 29 Message from Sister Carolyn:

My life has been full as I address medical problems.  In April I fractured a bone in my left foot while walking up a flight of stairs (they call it a stress fracture).  I already had scheduled my right total knee replacement surgery for May 13th.  In consultation with the doctor I wore an orthopedic boot on the fractured foot and went ahead with the surgery with 2 months of physical therapry. In late June I began to have back problems and an MRI showed that I had spinal stenosis (a narrowing of the space in which the spinal cord lies) together with a synovial cyst that was pressing directly on my spinal cord.   On August 13th I had surgery to correct the spinal stenosis (removal of some of the arthritic bone) with removal of the synovial cyst.  Two surgeries and two anesthesias within 3 months----and believe me, I have little stamina left.  I have had quite a few restrictions relative to bending and lifting following this latest surgery.  This has also hampered physical therapy on my knee.  I visit the orthopedic surgeon (knee surgeon) tomorrow re the stress fracture and what I need to do to get my knee functioning as well as it was.
Praisefully, two of my neices live a short distance away and they took on the responsibility of caring for me following both surgeries.  I just returned home on Saturday evening, August 25th, following my back surgery.  I live in a town house so getting things (& myself) up and down the stairs is a real chore.  Please pray that my body will continue to heal.  I want to get back to an active lifestyle.
For the last 4 years I worked as a teacher's aide in a Christian school.  I was unable to return this year because of the medical problems.  Once I feel okay I would like to either get a part-time job or volunteer for a service.  I'm sure the school would have some work that I could do as a volunteer.
I was glad to hear about your LINKS intern missionaries, Randy and Mary Jane James.  I'm sure their stories about working in their new adopted country are interesting.  I remember my first term of service in India when it seemed something new was happening everyday.
May God bless all of you at Savannah Harvest Church of the Nazarene.
Your LINKS retired missionary,

July 25 Message from Sister Carolyn:

Dear Friends at Savannah Harvest Nazarene,
Greetings from Pennsylvania and your LINKS retired missionary.  Today is a beautfiul, overcast, cooler-than-usual day.  I won't need to turn on the air-conditioner today.  My flower garden on the embankment in front of my town house is gorgeous--the day lilies are in full bloom.  Isn't God good to give us such beauty to enjoy?
I want to thank you for your LINKS gift of $25.00 that was received at Kansas City headquarters on 05/08/07 and then redirected to me.  I have been using LINKS gifts, for the most part, to keep my car going.  The cost of gasoline, as all of you know, is off the chart.  I don't make long distance trips unless I go on a Faith-Promise weekend, even still, on my retired, fixed income keeping the tank filled up is a real challenge.  Thank you for helping me keep "tanked-up"!
I would like to share a prayer request with you.  Seven years ago I had a Partial Knee Replacement surgery.  On May 11th I had the partial knee converted into a Total Knee Replacement.  I am doing extremely well and my gait it almost back to normal.  I praise the Lord.  However, subsequent to surgery and physical therapy I developed a problem in my lower back area.  I have pain from that area down my leg along the shin.  I had an MRI on Sunday, July 22.  The report of the MRI is to come tomorrow, Thursday, July 26.  I would appreciate your prayers that any needed intervention will be successful and as minimal as possible.  Thank you.
God bless all of you.
In Him,
Carolyn Myatt
